The concept is very clever: put Scrooge into today’s world, surround him with young talent, and move quickly.
Serious kudos to Paul Michael Nieman, whose Scrooge is full of purpose and vigor. Neiman oozes honey over the lines, clearly having a blast with the role.
The director, Colleen Hammond Whitmore speed directs two casts of 20 (so 40 actors) over the course of three days. Her vision is clear and she crafts a very clever adaptation of the story around her talented actors. Each actor gets a moment or two to shine, and everyone seems to have been having fun.
What I didn't like
There’s a serious lack of Muppets in this version of Christmas Carol. Where’s Rizzo!? Did he sleep through the rehearsals?
My overall impression
A fast and lovely retelling of a beloved Christmas story. “A Christmas Carol in 60 Minutes” nails the spirit of Dicken’s classic while bringing it into the modern day.
