In 1613 the Globe Theatre burned to the ground when a prop cannon misfired during a production of Henry VIII. That’s the official story anyway. But what if it was no accident…
Nick Tooley is the most celebrated female impersonator on the London stage, but for Shakespeare’s latest play, he is outshined by fresh faced Toby, the “new girl” in town. Added to this, Shakespeare (Nick’s best friend) announces this will be his final play before retiring to Stratford, leaving the King’s Men in the hands of his pretentious playwright protege, John Fletcher. Fletcher is enamored with Toby, and dismisses Nick as a messy diva.
Nick’s ensuing mental breakdown is the perfect opportunity for his fanatical puritan sister, Prudence, a vocal opponent of the theatre who dreams of destroying the globe.
Will Nick bring down his community out of spite? Find out in this tragicomedy of an aging queen in crisis!
