Belladonna Highway

I’m really glad I got to see Belladonna Highway again — once you know where the road leads, there are even more opportunities to appreciate the skillful music, the clever lyrics, the atmosphere, and the delightful characters. Additionally, the lighting and the venue of this second incarnation enhanced the spooky ambience and gave a sense of place well in line with the theme — Parson’s Nose Theater suggests it holds history, so where better to reckon with the ghosts of the past? I went to see Belladonna Highway with my sister, and it was completely up our alley — crime, romance, mystery, and the supernatural! We were captivated the whole way through! The music was amazing — I’m still humming the melodies that stuck with me days later. “The Man I Used to Be” was a standout, and the melancholic “Belladonna Hotel” song perfectly captured the haunting. We were so impressed by the actors and their talent. Their voices were powerful and expressive in the intimate space. My sister didn’t even realize at first that the piano accompaniment was being played live until it was a little bit into the show! Once she realized, she was even more impressed! I loved Belladonna Highway - it's a really fun little spooky and romantic story, and the music is fabulous. I'm boggled that it was pulled together in a couple of weeks, even if there was some old material to work with, and the cast did a great job. I loved the projections too - the wonky collage-style art was really great at setting the scene and the mood. I had a fabulous time, and look forward to seeing whatever's next for this show!... full review

Such a fun, intriguing, sophisticated musical. Songs were evocative of the "noir" genre and definitely transported us musically to the past, yet through a modern lens. Thoroughly enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing how it morphs. Yes! Bravo to the entire Cast, which was stellar! Bravo to Jeff Scot Carey and Emily Clark for nailing their characters and "I Want" songs.
