Hi, I’m Phelisha Cassup! If you’re reading this, thanks for stopping by to learn a little bit about me.
I was born and raised in Toronto, Canadian to Fijian-Jamaican parents. I’ve known I wanted to be an actress since I left the theatre after seeing Dakota Fanning’s performance in Uptown Girls. I loved the movie, but it was more than that. I become obsessed with the idea of getting to live in other people’s lives, to try them on for size. I begged my mom to get my an agent and I landed in the Endeavor office. My childhood memories are woven with glimpses of myself in audition rooms and on set.
By 14, the industry had made me feel insecure and I moved on to theatre where I really fell in love with the craft. I competed in Canada with an improv team, sang and danced in musicals, and even won acting awards for my school in my senior year. It was bittersweet as I was moving on to study journalism in university. I shelved my performer dreams for what I thought was a safer choice.
However, even the most exciting milestones were eclipsed by one undeniable truth – I wasn’t living my true dream.
So here I am, ready to give it a shot! I’m so excited to play the role of Belle and it truly feels like an invigorating step into the next chapter of a very exciting journey.
